Symptoms of freckles

Freckles are small brown patches on the skin. They arise due to the overproduction of melanin in our body. This excess production of melanin results in brown spots on the skin. These spots occur usually on the parts that are more exposed to the sun. people with a history of freckles in their families are also prone to the disease even if they are not exposed to the sun. The symptoms of freckles may vary from person to person. It can also be common for some and different for others

Some of the common symptoms of freckles are-

  • Visible brown patches over the body.
  • They may conquer the face, hands, chest, and head or chin because they are more exposed to the sun.
  • The patches may be light brown or of wheatish complexion.
  • They also resemble sunspots or sunburns.
  • Freckles exposed to sun may deepen the color and cover more parts of the body
  • During winters, the patches brighten and start improving.
  • Freckles can attack a young child, adult, or even old people. The exposure to sun and heredity are the sole causes of freckles.
  • Freckles are further classified into lentigines and ephelides.
  • Lentigines are the dark patches of skin. They usually attack adults.
  • Ephelides freckles are because of exposure to the sun or when someone isn’t able to protect their body from UV radiation. They show up on the face or back of the hands.
  • People with lighter skin color are more prone to freckles.
  • The skin becomes dark and tanned.
  • A drastic hormonal balance also contributes to the production of melanin in the body which results in dark spots on the body.
  • They are very peculiar in appearance and are pigmented.

Since freckles may resemble other patches of the skin or liver spots, they seldom get ignored. Once the above symptoms of freckles are identified, one should immediately visit their dermatologist. A variety of home remedies are also available which are fruitful.  Freckles are neither harmful nor do they possess a risk of skin cancer. Still, they should be treated immediately because they continue to darken their color with exposure to the sun. The skin also deteriorates with time. Good dermatology advice is mandatory.
